The goal of our tree planting service is to perform structural transformation in the forest area and to plant native seedlings. Our goal is to create a biodiversity rich and climate-resilient forest under the continuous cover forest management practice.
The stock is currently weak and gradually deteriorating, consisting of non-native species, mostly 66-year-old Scots pines, and a smaller part of black pines.
The purpose of the planting is to increase the naturalness of the forest and to reach a semi-natural stand which is close to the potential, natural vegetation of the Pilis Mountains.
As the first step of the reforestation, the health condition of the pine trees was investigated and many of them had to be eliminated in patches due to drying. During the intervention, the pines will be gradually replaced with native seedlings. Over time, only deciduous trees will dominate the area.
After the first 6-8 years of tending of seedlings, the forest can be maintained with a low environmental impact. Later it is necessary to perform forestry interventions at every 7-10 years. It is expected that the main task will be to suppress the newly emerging invasive species.
