Roundtable Discussion in Baku for PRE COP29 - Collaborating for a Sustainable Future
The PRE COP29 roundtable discussion was an important step in strengthening international cooperation for a sustainable future
It was a great honor for us to participate in the PRE COP29 roundtable discussion held in Baku, where key topics related to future climate actions and sustainability efforts were discussed. The event provided a valuable opportunity not only to share Hungary's commitment to sustainability but also to gain insight into other countries' dedication to climate actions and green development.
The Hungarian delegation was well-represented, showcasing Hungary's active role in global climate negotiations. The attending experts presented numerous proposals aimed at further strengthening international cooperation in the fight against climate change. Representing Hungary were Daniella Deli, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Hungary’s lead negotiator for COP29, József Goldfárth, Branch Director for MVM Azerbaijan, Gergely Kitta, Director of the Climate Policy Institute at Mathias Corvinus Collegium, and Hungary’s ambassador, Tamás Torma.
On the Azerbaijani side, Nigar Arpadarai, UN High-Level Climate Champion for COP29, participated, along with Samir Bejanov, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Lead Negotiator for COP29. Noteworthy contributions also came from Dr. Anar Valiyev, representing the ADA University’s rector on grants and research promotion, and Shahmar Hajiyev, Senior Specialist at the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center).
The discussion revolved around three major pillars, each playing a critical role in achieving a sustainable future:
Green Financing - One of the central topics of the discussion was financing sustainable projects. Both Hungarian and Azerbaijani representatives agreed that transitioning to a green economy requires the establishment of appropriate financial mechanisms and the support of innovative solutions.
The Importance of Communication - Effective climate protection depends on building communication channels that allow knowledge sharing and collaboration between countries and institutions. Open dialogue and emphasizing shared values are essential for the success of sustainability efforts.
Establishing Shared Platforms - Participants concurred that creating shared platforms where scientific, economic, and social stakeholders can meet is vital for achieving sustainable development goals. Regional and global cooperation can help effectively address climate change and ensure a more sustainable world for future generations.
This PRE COP29 event was an excellent opportunity to set the stage for the COP29 conference scheduled for December, which we hope will bring further milestones in climate protection.
