At Climate Action, we believe that every initiative that combines sport with sustainability can lead the way to a greener future. We are proud to partner with the Hungarian Handball Federation (MKSZ) on a groundbreaking project that not only supports the environment but also engages local communities in the creation of a more sustainable future.

 

The Hungarian Handball Forest is an ambitious new environmental and sustainability initiative by MKSZ. Together, we are creating a climate-resilient urban forest with a diverse range of tree species. This green space will not only contribute to environmental protection but will also serve as a recreational area for local communities to enjoy. The project has a special significance, as it also includes efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the Hungarian Handball Federation's official products – a first for Hungarian sports. 

 

A Step Towards a Greener Future

 

On October 11, the project officially began with the help of the Hungarian Handball Federation’s staff. Together, we planted 100 native tree saplings and one decorative tree, including species like domestic linden, maple, and oak. These trees are expected to neutralize around 30 tons of CO2 over the next 50 years, contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment.

 

As part of our commitment, we will regularly monitor the health of the trees and replace any unhealthy individuals with sustainable, native species. This ensures that the forest remains a thriving, resilient space that continues to support both the local community and the environment.

A Lasting Legacy of Sustainability

 

The Hungarian Handball Forest will stand as a lasting legacy of the Women’s Handball European Championship. It is not only a beautiful green space but also a powerful example of how sports organizations can take concrete steps toward environmental protection. By reducing carbon emissions, creating green spaces, and promoting sustainability, this project exemplifies how collective action can contribute to a greener, more sustainable future.
